The kind of cleanser you purchase will largely depend on your skin type. Some people are lucky to have normal skin. It is not too oily or dry and does not get irritated easily. Normal skin can also be resistant to allergic reactions, and many cleansers are suitable for it.

 

Oily skin is usually not affected by harsher cleansers. This kind of skin tends to become oily within a short time after cleansing, whereas dry skin can feel itchy and even flake after cleansing. They will often be less drying than the typical foaming cleansers, so people with dry skin may want to see if they work for them.

 

Non-Foaming Cleansers

 

Non-foaming cleansers are very gentle on the skin. They normally do not cause irritation, but the downside to using them is that they won’t cleanse your skin very well. If you have dry skin, non-foaming cleansers may be the best option for you.

 

Soap-Free Cleansers

 

These types of cleansers do not contain harsh chemicals like SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laurethsulfate). Without SLS, they resist forming a lather as well. Some users may not like the feeling of using a cleanser that does not lather well. These cleansers are beneficial for people who like to minimise the number of chemicals in their skincare products.

 

Medicated Cleansers

 

Medicated cleansers are targeted for people with have acne-prone skin. These cleansers come with special ingredients that are meant to restore the balance of the skin and kill acne-causing bacteria. Some of these ingredients include benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid.

 

Oil Cleansers

 

Did you know you can cleanse your skin with oil? Oil cleansers are best for people with extremely dry skin. You may use castor, coconut, or jojoba oils, rub them into your face, then wash them off. Oil cleansing deep-cleans pores, as the oil pulls out impurities that easily dissolve in the pores.
