Gilded Bronze Clock, Newcastle

Gilded Bronze Clock, Newcastle

A gilded bronze clock surmounted by the figure of Progress by sculptor Alfred Glover.

Situated at the junction of Clayton St and Westgate Road in Newcastle, the building was originally a branch of Northern Goldsmiths and an identical clock features on their extant flagship store on the corner of Blackett St and Pilgrim St.

Both buildings were designed by James Cackett in the 1890s and the clocks were added in the 1930s by Burns Dick and Mackellor.
